Madagascar Sequel Tops Global Box Office Chart
All-star animated film Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa has stampeded to the top of the international box office chart, taking in $33.5 million (£22.6 million) in 56 territories.
The DreamWorks movie, starring Ben Stiller, Jada Pinkett Smith, Chris Rock and David Schwimmer fought off competition from Keanu Reeves' sci-fi thriller The Day the Earth Stood Still, which finished second at $21 million (£14.2 million) in 92 markets.
Vampire lovestory Twilight, starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, sucked $11 million (£7.4 million) in earnings in 27 territories
Rounding out the top five were Jim Carrey's new comedy, Yes Man at number four, and animated mouse movie The Tale of Despereaux, at five, which garnered $3.5 million (£2.4 million) and $1.7 million (£1.2 million) respectively
