Madagascar Sequel Tops Global Box Office ChartAll-star animated film Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa has stampeded to the top of the international box office chart, taking in $33.5 million (£22.6 million) in 56 territories.

The DreamWorks movie, starring Ben Stiller, Jada Pinkett Smith, Chris Rock and David Schwimmer fought off competition from Keanu Reeves' sci-fi thriller The Day the Earth Stood Still, which finished second at $21 million (£14.2 million) in 92 markets.

Vampire lovestory Twilight, starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, sucked $11 million (£7.4 million) in earnings in 27 territories

Rounding out the top five were Jim Carrey's new comedy, Yes Man at number four, and animated mouse movie The Tale of Despereaux, at five, which garnered $3.5 million (£2.4 million) and $1.7 million (£1.2 million) respectively

Sex And The City: The Movie has fought off competition from the swashbuckling Indiana Jones to hold on to the top spot in the U.K. box office for a second consecutive week.

The big-screen adaptation of the hit TV series raked in $6.2 million (£3.1 million) over the weekend (06-08Jun08), fending off Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which sits at two with $5.34 million (£2.67 million).

Spoof comedy Superhero Movie is a new entry at three with $1.7 million (£851,353), while horror Prom Night and Ben Affleck's directorial debut Gone Baby Gone debut at fourth and fifth place, with earnings of $1.01 million (£507,985) and $702,254 (£351,127) respectively.
